Half Term Homework 8.2.17
We will be continuing our topic of ‘Amazing Altitudes’ after half term. Please find out as much as you can about the River Torridge. You might like to visit the river and take some photos, or draw the river. You could find out about the history of Appledore Quay or Bideford Quay. You can present what you have found in the week of the 27th February 2017. How you present your work is entirely up to you. You might decide to create an art picture, a fact sheet, or a PowerPoint.

We have been researching different climbing equipment. We really enjoyed trying on real climbing equipment!

During our school trip to Rosemoor we had a lovely walk around the grounds, the children found some ice to play with, which made their hands really cold.

During our Rocks and Soils learning the children carried out experiments of different soils, testing the PH levels and how the soil changes when you add water.

This week in Year 3 we have been identifying different rocks around the school, where we found them, and how they are used. This is the start of our new Science topic, which will be supported by our trip to Rosemoor.

In Merlins we have been enjoying our English sequence Minnow and the Bear. This week have created actions to help us learn phrases from the story.

The children in Dunlins class developed a design criteria, which they used to make a Stone Age weapon, using clay, string and a stick.

The children in year 3 enjoyed a session with Mrs Recycl,e whereby they learnt about different materials which can be recycled and how these materials are recycled.


Half Term Home Learning.

Our science topic next half term is Light and Dark.   Please find out how shadow puppets work and if you can create a shadow puppet to share with the class.  Also, we have been learning our 3 times tables this half term, please could you show these different calculations in arrays. And please don't forget to get stuck into a book too.

The children in Dunlins have been writing their name in the Stone Age alphabet on stained paper to achieve the effect similar to the cave paintings we have learnt about.

The children in Merlins have been exploring how the houses were different in the Stone Age. They have created a Bone Shelter using natural materials to represent the materials used in the Stone Age. Creating bones and tusks out of clay and working as a team to experience the sense of achievement at making a home!

In Science we have been learning about how different surfaces and gravity affect the distance a car can travel.

In English we have been using role play to act out scenes from Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.

In Topic we have investigated how people transported the Stones from Wales to England to build Stone Henge.



In Merlins class we have created marble effect jars, linking the BFG, which will display the final pieces of our English writing. Both classes have had lots of questions about our Stone Age topic, which we will explore throughout the term.
